About Kol HalevKol Halev is dedicated to the performance of Jewish music of all styles, including liturgical, folk, and popular music from the 16th century to the present. Conducted by Cantor Annie Rose and accompanied by Dr. Ray McLellan, this 60-voice ensemble has presented concerts exploring major styles of Jewish music in Yiddish, Sephardic, Hebrew, and English in arrangements for a cappella voices as well as choir with piano, chamber orchestra, and full orchestra.
Annie Rose has served as cantor of Temple Beth Emeth since 1994. Under her direction the temple's music program has grown to include approximately 200 members in four ensembles, including adult, teen, and youth choirs and instrumental groups. The ensembles perform in services and concerts throughout the year, and Kol Halev frequently joins the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra in concert. In 1999, Cantor Rose worked with temple members to create TBE’s Caring Community Program which has since become a national model for similar programs offering congregants an opportunity to reach out to each other and provide support in time of need, as well as celebrating life's joyous transitions together. In 2004, Cantor Rose was named an Honorary Citizen of Bucharest by the Jewish Community of Romania. For more information, see the Kol Halev Section on the Temple Beth Emeth web site.
